The World Health Organisation http://www.who.int/en/ recommended Larium but didn't say why.
Often a lot of these drugs are given on prescription and are based on where you are going and your general health.Which drug you end up taking depends on:
- How long you are prepared to take it before (can be 2 weeks, it can be one day) and after Kenya (max can be four weeks)?
- How much you are prepared to pay?
- How frequently you are prepared to take tablets (some are every day, others are every week)
Note they don't recommend you switching tablets once you have started a course as that means mixing the drugs.
